Venezia
We started off with five nights in Venice. After travelling from the airport to our hotel, La Residenza in Campo Bandiera e Moro, in our own water taxi, we togged ourselves up to hob-knob it with Prince Albert of Monaco at the Felice theatre for a performance by the Monte Carlo philarmonic orchestra. Tired after the wedding and travelling, we ducked out half way through to get our first honeymoon dinner.
Rezzato
After suffering the heat of Venice, we relished some air-conditioning in a Lancia Musa as we drove inland to Rezzato and the Villa Fenaroli Palace Hotel, an 18th-century palace now turned into a 5-star establishment. We had the place to ourselves, enjoying G&T's and immaculate sandwiches in the American bar and fine meals in the restaurant, where we were treated to our first taste of our 'honeymoon' wine: 2004 Ca'del Bosco Curtefranca (rosso). We managed a very hot day out for a swim in Lake Garda whilst we were there.
Moltrasio, Lago di Como
After luxury in Rezzato, we were treated once again. This time the best room at the Villa Imperiale in Moltrasio, including a huge balcony overlooking the hotel's pool right on the edge of Lake Como. After enjoying complimentary champagne and fruit on our first evening, we lazed on our sun lounges, swam in the lake and the pool and managed a bit of a day trip on the boats. How relaxing...
